Ad Hoc Community (Now named the Crowsnest Advisory Committee or for short CAC)

Members of the Committee
From Council – These were picked at a council meeting when the Mayor requested volunteers, only three members of council stepped forward, kept the selection process fairly simple, if somebody else had stepped forth we would have held a vote.
John Irwin, John Salus, Dean Ward

From Community Futures- These were picked by the board its self only one member of council sits on this board, so council out side of that member had zero input into their selections.
Bill Kovach, John Slupsky, Shane Stewart

From Chamber of Commerce- I was told that they selected their members by a vote of the board of directors, from amongst the members that stepped forth. Again an internal process and from what I know no member of council is a Chamber Director so again zero input from council.
Richard Buckle, Lowry Toombs, Jenine Trotz

The accusation of the Board being dominated by the “old school” people that are unwilling to look at or accept change. Looking at this list in my humble opinion I only see one “old school”, will that individual dominate the other eight?

Public Involvement- yes council asked the board to again look at this issue, and we did most of the board felt it is very important to get the public involved in this process, quickly and effectively. Did the board agree to do this at the board level? No, at another equally important level? Yes

We requested that council approve a budget for up to a $1000 (which they did June 2) to start advertising for members of the public to participate on two sub committees. For two very important issues “Community Beautification initiative” and “Signage Bylaws”. This is a start for this process and will determine how effective CAC will be, hopefully the public will step forth.

At our meeting on June 1st we also approved the Terms of Reference for the committee which in part specified that sub committees will be made up jointly of members from the board and the public, but under no circumstances will the board be in a majority position on sub committees.

Within the terms of reference there is also a provision that the terms must be reviewed on an annual basis, and more often if a majority of the board feels they are not working.

We hope to be reviewing the names for the first sub committees at our next meeting and have the process started in July.

Were individuals promised a position on this board, not that I am aware of, were people encouraged to step forth and join the process? Absolutely, that opportunity will be provided shortly, and yes I am going out to encourage every person that as ever complained to me to step up and put their name in for these committees. Personally I see Community Beautification as one of the biggest issues we face. Do you have any idea how many times I hear criticism about some of the pig pens that are allowed to flourish in this community?

Anyway the CAC is not be perfect, but it as started and between all of us I feel we are going in the right direction and have the chance to do some really good things in the Crowsnest Pass.

I have been living in the CNP for more than 10 years and has invested in this community. I am very disappointed. The town is nothing but a disgrace. Why has nothing being done to those who has left their trash around? You HAVE to start by cleaning up. How can a woman apply lipstick is she has not washed her face first?

I have been living in CNP for about 12 years...alot of fixups are going on which is great! However, there still are alot of properties with old junk cars in their yards. Why isn't the bylaw being implemented???

Bylaws will not have to be adhered to in the Crowsnest pass as long the person that you mean is insuring his cars which enable him to register them to which he immediatly drops their insurance.
He thinks you, the people of the Crowsnest Pass are stupid and he can do what ever he wants.
And I think he's right, after all, you people have been letting him get away with it for years and laughing it off until someone from outside your community brings it up!
Why don't you people stand up and do something about it instead of letting this happen and prove to the rest of the world that you are not stupid hillbilly's outsmarted by someone who quite literally is the laughing stock of the area.
Remember how he was all over Bridgecreek when they got here, well look at it now! Who here did not honestly see that coming? Bridgecreek are "VENTURE CAPITALISTS". (Just in case someone doesn't know what that is, venture capitalist's take investors cash and take a chance on what is most times a gamble at best)
For goodness sakes, people of the Crowsnest Pass, do something and do it now! Not in 490 days, if you don't, you will be complaining in another year from now about the same garbage that will stall any future development by the same amount of time.
Unless of course, thats the way you like it...

After reading about the dismay felt about the car situation at that house a while back I drove by that residence and counted 19 wrecks around a year ago. the body count is now up to 22 and if the two cars that "fit the profile" at the house to the east actually belong to this individual (I understand he owns the house and rents it out) the count is 24.
If I may, I would like to tell a story of growing up on the prairies. I grew up on what many called the Indian trail a long time ago. I remember my father constantly doing deals with some of the folks from there as someone always need a jug full of gas. Occasionally, we would get offered a car that was on the reserve and being friends with many of these folks, we took them up on it.
Although reservations have a reputation of being unkempt, never, have I on all my experiences, seen anything on any reserve, even in the 60's and 70's that would rival what is going on in Blairmore right now.

You had better believe that this person is in no way holding any of the people of the Crowsnest Pass in any level of regard as he is full out flipping off all of you with his actions.

Blairmore is a sty simply because of one individuals actions, and that person is who you have as your representitive?
Is everyone afraid that you will lose a surgeon? is that it?
Right now you have people from all over the world just waiting to come to places like this that you don't have to worry about dying from old age as you are getting your appendix removed.

Get a grip, Crowsnest Pass and fix your problem.

To RFA:

if "Blairmore is a sty" because of one property, then every town in the world is a sty.

that's not to say that it shouldn't be discussed or worked on, but using hyperbole isn't an effective way to make an argument.

the Pass does need to be cleaned up more and made more presentable, but a pitchfork waving mob is not the way to do it. tearing people and places down is not the way to do it. maybe we'd be a cleaner town after that but we'd be dirty on the inside.

ps. every member of council was "all over Bridgecreek" when it started, not just the mayor. hindsight doesn't change the fact that it would be a great thing for the town and that the town had to stand behind it if it was going to have any chance to succeed.

In response to Anon to RFA, Did you proof read what you wrote? Mob? The person that is representing you is laughing at you! Let's say that you were in a position of power and had the same ability as our "car collector" to bend things in your favor. Would you allow pig farming in your neighborhood because you were able to find some loop-hole that allowed it? Stay off the porch until you come up with an arguement, little dog...

As for your Bridgecreek remarks, you do understand that these people were venture capitalists right? The town had nothing to do with the sales of thier units to the rest of the world to which it was marketed. The fact of it is, if you were moving to an area, would you not be interested in doing some research on weather, employment or cost of living? Wow, living in a world of complacency must make your days go by without a hitch... Everyday sunny and no wind with neighbors that can do whatever they want. Whatever your smoking, do you buy by the pound? RFA
