Tax Notices are in your mail boxes
They are in the mail boxes today.
Curious to see how other folks did, my taxes went up almost 2% looking forward to any comments.

A little surprised mine(Hillcrest) went up just under 2% also. But my assessed value was almost the same for 2010 and 2009. Did values really not drop?
I got 2, 1 in Blairmore, assessed value stayed the same, tax went up by 2%.In Bellevue my assessed value actaully went up a little and my tax went up 2.5%. There were NO renovations. So to the councillors who said 0%, what gives.You buy new equipment, hire new employees, cut services and my taxes go up.Sure you can say you never voted for the tax increase but you did vote for some of the costs above.Lies,lies,lies. Almost forgot my utility bill also went up, have you no shame or is it brains you guys lack.
Very little movement in assessed value, my property went down $1200 in 2010 Which was a surprise I expected to see more of a drop in values from 09 to 10.
My taxes went up in Bellevue almost 3%, my value stayed the same (within a few hundred dollars). I have a vacant lot in Coleman that is worth exactly what it was a year earlier.
If we lived in other towns such as Canmore, we could download the Assessment Roll and see all the assessments and how they have changed from previous years.
The assessment roll data is public information. It would be nice if we could access it on the internet. Nevertheless, I would assume that if you ask for assessment information at the Municipal office, they would be required to provide it. Maybe if we all show up to ask for data, the Municipality might find it cost effective to put it online.
I see community services wanted their own web site. Why not do want for municipal assessment then all that information could be posted for the public there.
The Canmore assessment roll is only 1/4 MB. The cost of adding a file this size this to our existing tax page would be negligible. We currently have files as large as 50 MB on the site (maps).
It's not like we have to pay a "web designer" $6000 to make a flashy looking site like the ski hill.
I would also like to see the "line item budget". That is a much smaller file than the tax roll and might give us some idea where our taxes are going.

Single wide trailer, went down 8% my value on the trailer went down $15,000.
